First Class Falconry soared in for a day to visit Garson’s Garden Centre, Titchfield on the 18th April. Amidst the Easter holidays, children and adults alike were delighted to meet an array of raptors. Highlights included Colin the Kestrel (who flapped around like he was having a sugar rush), Kookie the Kookaburra (who screeched like a mischievous child), the adorably timid Tawny Owl and the majestic Siberian Eagle Owl.

I, myself, was excited to get involved; observing my favourite bird (the kestrel), taking photos, asking questions, and even getting to hold the Siberian Eagle Owl (F.Y.I it weighed a ton)!

Alan Greenhalgh, owner of these magnificent birds was clearly enthusiastic, happy to answer questions and discuss his passion. When asked how long he has worked with the birds he stated ‘Since 1972 so nearly 50 years’.  His favourite bird is the Gyrfalcon as it is ‘big and friendly’ although it is apparently expensive.

Greenhalgh expressed his undeniable passion when asked why he decided to work with birds of prey; ‘I love them! Once it’s in your blood it always will be!’ At 12 years old Alan witnessed a man flying a hawk and it ignited a spark in him. Now he has a career hosting events where he educates the public, hosts flying displays, organises hunting days, and does pest control.

The Garson’s Garden Centre also had a charming coffee shop to get refreshments and relax after all of the excitement – a great end to an enjoyable day!

Although located in West London, First Class Falconry travel all over the UK so look out for a local event near you! They are fully licenced and insured with over 40 years of experience.
