A month after moving to university I decided to go home for the weekend. What I didn’t realise was how much I had changed since moving out. I have become a lot more independent. From attending lectures, doing washing, staying healthy and completing assignments: I organise my time.
When I was home, I realised my home town seems much smaller and quieter since I started living in Portsmouth. I also realised that my bed at university is more comfortable. When I slept in my own bed I didn’t sleep as well, but I slept like a baby once I was back in halls.
As a student I have become a bit of a night owl. I am great at power napping so during the day I often sleep a bit and go out at night. Going to bed at 11:30 pm at home felt strange.

However, by going home, I discovered how much I missed home cooked meals. My mum cooked pasta and the smell alone had me foaming at the mouth! It was also great being able to bring my washing home as my mum as generous enough to do it for me.
Another thing I did when I visited home was catch up on some TV. Crashing on the sofa with my family, hot chocolate in hand was bliss.
It was so nice spending time with my sister again. One of the biggest adjustments I had to face when moving to university was not having her around anymore. I really miss her, and calling is just not the same as seeing her.
I loved seeing my family, but by the end of the weekend I was looking forward to returning to uni.
